On Sunday May 9th the women at Native American Connections' (NAC)'s Guiding Star treatment center, celebrated Mother's Day with a spa inspired afternoon.
Their day began by "shopping" in the NAC donation room of new and gently used clothing that the center had received during the previous months. The women were then treated to haircuts by gracious volunteers from Maricopa Skills Center. Their day ended with massages by a talented volunteer from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy.
After choosing new clothes and a bit of pampering, the women had surprise visits from Miss Arizona, Savannah Troupe and Miss Scottsdale Rebecca Hasulak who spoke to the women about "finding their passion in life". All of the women then put their creativity to use by making bracelets let by Miss Troupe and Miss Hasulak.
As a special gift the women received purses filled with toiletries that were donated from Shoebox Ministries and baskets filled with goodies donated from Fort McDowell Indian Community Church.
"Having the chance to be part of a special event like this is a wonderful opportunity for our clients", stated Helen Leonard, Clinical Supervisor at Guiding Star. "They have experienced so many challenges to this point in their lives and this kind of an experience allows them to relax, have fun and celebrate the goals that they are accomplishing through our program at Guiding Star".
NAC is grateful to the donors, community volunteers and Guiding Star team that worked together to coordinate this wonderful day bringing hope and cheer to women in recovery.
